About this course:
Learn about early care, education approaches and how to identify quality care. This online course on teaching young children introduces the approaches, history and development of early childhood education programs. The course offers an overview of developmentally appropriate learning environments, curriculum and how to define play-based learning and outcomes. Students explore how different program approaches meet the needs of the young child. Students learn observation, assessment and strategies for guiding children’s behavior. Field observations are required. This is a lower-division (entry level) college class. This is an intensive course, in which the work of a full academic quarter is offered in only 8 weeks. Expect to spend around 12 hours per week to complete everything in each week’s module.
