Certificate Program Completion
After you complete the last class in your certificate program, you have a 60-day grace period during which you can remain in the U.S. to plan your next steps. You can do any of the following:
- Plan for your return to your home country
- Transfer your I-20 to another U.S. school to start another program within 5 months
- Apply for another UCLA Extension Certificate Program
- Apply for and engage in Optional Practical Training. You remain in F-1 status while on OPT. During OPT you must maintain your health insurance, keep your contact information current, and inform your ISS advisor if you change employers.
Please note: If you depart the U.S. at any point during your grace period, your F-1 visa status will end and you will not be able to return to the U.S. on your F-1 visa. Please plan any grace-period travel accordingly.
