About this course:

Nonfiction outsells fiction in both the adult and children's publishing markets. It is also an excellent avenue for writers to break into children's publishing. In this course, you will explore writing nonfiction in a variety of children’s formats including board books, concept books, picture books, chapter books and magazine material. Through lectures, discussions and in-class assignments, students will become familiar with requirements for each grade level, how to pitch a project to agents or magazines, and learn to convey information in efficient, compelling ways that readers of all ages will be eager to explore and absorb. The goal is to develop several short assignments and a final writing project tailored to the children’s nonfiction market.
