UCLA Extension policies provide students fair opportunities to gracefully withdraw from enrollment commitments. Please read them fully before making your request.

Your Options

Drop a Course: Unenroll in a course and receive a refund, minus nonrefundable fees.

Transfer Courses: Switch from one course to another in the same quarter.

Withdraw from a Course: Discontinue participating in a course after the drop deadline. No refund is offered and a grade of 'W' will be placed on your record, however, the course will not appear on your transcript.

LA Wildfires Update (January 2025)

UCLA Extension understands the challenges caused by the recent wildfires and is here to support our students. Temporary adjustments to our refund exception policy are available for those directly impacted. To request an exception, email refundexceptions@uclaextension.edu. Please include the following:

  • Your full name and UCLA Extension student ID (starts with “X”)
  • Course name(s)
  • A statement explaining the impact of the wildfires on your ability to attend or participate in classes
  • Any supporting documentation you can provide to validate your statement

Deadlines

You can find the deadline to drop, transfer or withdraw from a course:

Considerations

  • Students Receiving Financial Aid - Dropping or withdrawing from a course may affect your aid eligibility. See Financial Aid Enrollment Conditions for more information.
  • International Students (F1 Visa) - Dropping or withdrawing from a course may jeopardize your immigration status. Please consult with the International Student Services at iss@uclaextension.edu or 1-310-825-9351 before taking action.

Drop a Course

How to drop a course:

  • Log into your Student Account
  • In the menu, select 'My Enrollment History'
  • Find your course and select 'Request Drop'
  • Follow the prompts to complete your request

If payment for your enrollment was submitted by a third party, please email your drop request to enroll@uclaextension.edu.

You may drop a course until 11:59 p.m. PT on the final drop date.

Refunds

Refunds will be processed automatically. Please allow 3-6 business days for credit card refunds and 10 business days for refunds by check. There are no cash refunds. Tuition fees cannot be credited to another quarter.

Nonrefundable Fees

  • A $30 administrative fee will be withheld from each dropped course for which a refund is due ($50 for concurrent enrollments). This does not apply to courses that are cancelled by UCLA Extension or transfer requests that are received on or before the final transfer date.
  • Additional fees may be withheld as indicated in course listings. These fees are typically listed in the Details and Notes of each course section, if applicable, and are generally earlier and the amounts withheld are higher.
  • Certificate candidacy and miscellaneous application fees are nonrefundable.

Emergency Circumstances
If the final refund date has passed, claims for exception to the course refund policy will be considered only under the most unusual circumstances and only if the request is received within 90 days from the course end date. Send a letter describing your circumstance, with appropriate documentation, to refundexceptions@uclaextension.edu

Courses Cancelled by UCLA Extension
UCLA Extension reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or combine courses on or before the first scheduled class if fewer than the required students enroll. If your course is canceled, discontinued or rescheduled before the first class meeting date, or if the instructor does not accept your application to attend a restricted course, we will contact you and issue a full refund.

Transfer Courses

How to transfer courses:

  • Log into your Student Account
  • In the menu, select 'My Enrollment History'
  • Find your course and select 'Request Transfer'
  • Follow the prompts to complete your request

Please note that some transfers cannot be processed through the student portal. For the scenarios below, please email your transfer request to enroll@uclaextension.edu:

  • If a payment for your enrollment was submitted by a third party
  • If you used any discounts
  • If you are transferring out of a cancelled course
  • If you are transferring into a waitlisted course after receiving an invitation to enroll

You may request to transfer from one course to another until 11:59 p.m. PT on the final transfer date.

If you are transferring to a course with a higher tuition fee, you will need to pay the difference. If you are transferring to a course with a lower tuition fee, you will receive a refund. There is no administrative fee charged for transferring courses.

Tuition fees cannot be credited to another quarter. An enrollment is not transferable to another person.

Withdraw from a Course

If you decide to discontinue participating in your course after the final drop date, you have the option to withdraw up until the final withdrawal date. For courses that require a final test, you are no longer eligible to withdraw once you have access to take the final test. A grade of 'W' will be placed on your record, but the course will not appear on your transcript. No refunds are available for course withdrawal.

How to Withdraw from a Course:

  • After the drop deadline, log in to the Student Account
  • In the menu select 'My Enrollment History'
  • Find your course and select 'Request Withdrawal'
  • Follow the prompts to complete your request

If payment for your enrollment was submitted by a third party, please email your withdrawal request to enroll@uclaextension.edu.
