Instructor Statement:
Storytelling is an innate human instinct. Everyone has stories to tell. I am here to help you take your stories from ideas to professionally written scripts that show off your unique voice and perspective. Screenwriting is both a technical skill and a deeply personal journey, and I will address both aspects in our time together. We will discuss structure, character, setting, plot, conflict, and story arcs—from the big picture to the scene-level work that makes a script shine. But we will do so in a classroom that operates from a place of respect first and foremost. We will treat each writer’s work with the empathy and dignity it deserves. Giving and receiving notes is also a skill that can be improved, and we will practice it by offering notes in the spirit of encouragement and clarity, rather than imposing our own beliefs or ideas onto another writer’s work.
