The UCLA Extension Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate program prepares educators to teach English as a second or foreign language to diverse learning populations.

The program covers applicable theory in linguistics and second language development; methods of teaching listening, speaking, reading and writing; current technologies for teaching English and cultural understanding.

Applicants of this program are required to submit the following:

  • Bachelor's degree official transcripts
  • English language proficiency (minimum) scores for non-native English speakers, if English is not the primary language of the country in which you have obtained your bachelor's degree: 
    • TOEFL iBT: 85
      IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall
      DuoLingo: 55
Note: Students who earned their Bachelor's degree from a university located in a country in which English is the primary language are not required to submit English language proficiency scores.
