Todd Hioki

Early Childhood Education Master Teacher & Instructor

Todd Hioki is a progressive, play-based educator for young children, birth through age 5. He designs spaces and materials that enhance relational curricula, exploratory learning, self-regulation and executive function skills in early childhood. Mr. Hioki has delivered trainings to ECE teachers and administrators, from rural South Africa to urban school districts, and local ECE programs. He has focused his in-class instruction techniques on equity and on reaching every student, from highly prepared to non-traditional. No student walks away from his class without a personal, growth experience.

Mr Hioki utilizes video processes to capture in-the-field interactions with children for the purpose of educating parents and training teachers on topics such as toddler conflict resolution techniques. Through the video tool, he makes visible the developmental changes that would be too subtle for a teacher to recognize through day-to-day observation. For example, showing the progress of a dual language learner, over the course of 10 months, as they move from non-productive, to telegraphic, to formulaic, to productive language.

He is currently a PhD. Candidate at the Saybrook College of Humanistic and Existential Psychology.
