Shirin Raban is a multi-cultural brand identity designer, design educator and ethnographic filmmaker. She communicates visual and cultural stories of people, products and services through a variety of media such as ethnographic films, packaging and brand identity designs, and handmade books. Ms. Raban received her MA in visual anthropology from University of Southern California and her BA in graphic design from California State University Northridge. Her ethnographic documentary, “The Fifth Question,” presents a reflection on the evolving cultural identity of first generation immigrants in postmodern Los Angeles.

Ms. Raban has collaborated with a variety of design and marketing teams to create visual branding, packaging and advertising for clients such as Korbel Champagne, Lake Sonoma Winery, Mattel Toys, and Fox Family Channel. She has also created integrated lifestyle brands for independent clients such as Serengeti tea Company and The Daily Shake.

Shirin has been teaching courses in branding, packaging and graphic design, as well as career preparation, design history and context, and beginning 2D design since 2007. Ms. Raban is the recipient of the UCLA Extension Design Communication Art’s 2010 Outstanding Instructor Award. She teaches at California State University Northridge, UCLA Extension, Mount St. Mary’s University, and Woodbury University, and has served as the AIGA Student Group Faculty Adviser at UCLA Extension.
