About this course:
This advanced-level, workshop-focused class is for fiction and nonfiction picture book writers who have completed two or more character or concept-centered picture book manuscripts and feel ready to revise, polish, and pursue publication. Students will practice craft and revision strategies through active participation in small group workshops. Skills covered will include key elements of strong picture book writing such as stakes and structure, pacing and page turns, word and sentence level choices, POV and voice, characterization, plot, and more. Each week assigned students will post their manuscript to a course discussion board and the class will respond with deep-dive, thoughtfully articulated comments. By the end of the course, students will have completed and revised one or more picture book manuscripts and a cover letter, so that they will be ready to query editors and/or agents.
