This course trains students in core concepts and applications of group counseling techniques and approaches used in substance use disorder treatment and recovery programs.

  • Develop skills to manage groups in early recovery
  • Facilitate group demonstrations and didactic presentations
  • Identify trouble areas, transference, and countertransference so groups can run smoothly
  • Overview of individual, group, and family counseling

About this course:

Students learn the core concepts and applications of group counseling techniques and approaches used in substance use disorder treatment and recovery programs. Using group demonstrations along with didactic presentations, students are provided an opportunity to develop skills to manage groups in early recovery.
Prerequisites
Completion of the following with a grade of "C" or better: COM HLT X 470.5 and COM HLT X 470.7.
