The CTE Credential in California program is a unique pathway into the teaching profession. It offers employers the opportunity to hire talented and committed professionals with at least three years of qualified industry experience to fill critical positions in career and technical education classrooms.

The CTE Credential Program at UCLA Extension is designed for qualified industry professionals who have received offers of employment to teach specific courses requiring a CTE credential. An employer is an essential part of obtaining the CTE credential. Candidates should plan to meet with their employer to confirm their teaching position, identify an industry sector, and agree to program mentorship expectations.

Approved candidates obtain a recommendation for the preliminary CTE credential, enroll in the Early Orientation for CTE, and immediately begin teaching.

Format: The program is comprised of eight courses that vary in length from three to eight weeks. Courses are delivered online via Canvas with some courses requiring a one-hour live Zoom session on Tuesday evenings.

Duration: Coursework can be completed in 18 months.
