About This Course
Underdog: Against All Odds, The Fight for Justice is the memoir of Thomas Jacobson, who was less than six months old when he escaped Nazi Germany on the MS St. Louis, a ship full of refugee Jews who were denied entry to the U.S. In this presentation, Mr. Jacobson shares highlights from his book—from his family’s journey to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to his career as a civil rights attorney during the 1960s and decades thereafter. Mr. Jacobson was at the center of some of Wisconsin's most celebrated and consequential cases, ranging from the defense of the legendary Fr. James Groppi to getting justice for the families of the victims of the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. As he says in his book, "I embraced my reputation as a hellraising, trouble making, pain-in-the-ass lawyer who would fight the powers that be in the name of justice." This course uses the Hybrid format which allows students to participate remotely and/or in the classroom. This course will be recorded. Students will have access to the video for 30 days.
