Instructor Statement:
Writing is like juggling. A good writer can’t focus only on character or plot or setting. We must be aware of every fictional element simultaneously and ensure they’re moving in the right direction. Otherwise, the dancing array falls to the ground and scatters as we awkwardly try to chase and wrangle it back together. Writing, like juggling, only looks easy when done well. Through reading, discussion and critique, we will study the technique of the masters, translate them to our own work and help each other find our unique balance and rhythm. My job is to require rigorous practice and exercise, share my experience, offer suggestions and marvel at your valiant efforts when your stories delight and inspire young audiences of all ages.
