Information, media, and technology are changing every day with artificial intelligence and fake news making it more difficult than ever to know what to believe. We are living in an attention economy in which media spectacles sensationalize the public sphere and challenge the foundations of an informed democracy. This webinar explores our relationships with media, technology, and popular culture by critically questioning our media and creating alternative messages. Through critically reading and writing with images, sounds, multimedia, social media, digital technology, and print, we can enhance our critical thinking skills and embrace our potential as active global citizens. We will use the critical media literacy framework to analyze media messages and create our own digital memes. Join Dr. Jeff Share, award-winning photojournalist and educator, UCLA senior lecturer, and author of numerous articles and books on critical media literacy.
